LET MY PEOPLE GO
The recent dispute between the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the Federal government has been based on financial agreement and non settlement. Recently, the federal government made a mouth watering settlement for the ASUU members so that students can go back to resume the session that has been on hold since July 2nd. But the hopes of students were dashed mercilessly when the ASUU senior members ended their meeting with the federal government in a dead-end.
The issue, which was thought to have been settled, has been postponed by the ASUU chairpersons while the government pleads with lecturers to 'return to classrooms'.
Right at this period, it has become likened to the case of the dispute between Moses and Ramesses concerning the people of Israel in Egypt; in this case, it is ASUU versus the Federal government for the Nigerian students and it has been tagged 'Let My People Go'.
Students all over the nation that are in their final year, who were about preparing for their final examinations have been lamenting over the current educational crisis and how badly it has affected their proposed plans after graduation while the rest of the undergraduates are just stuck in the middle.
With this national battle that always determines the fates of the students, there is hardly anything anyone can do to put an end to it except the ones who possess the power; the ASUU.
